Meet-a-Mom: Laura Siddons of The Nesting Place | Western Nassau Moms

I am so excited to share this Meet-A-Mom with a wonderful woman, Laura, co-founder of The Nesting Place in Farmingdale. Laura has had a passion for moms and babies since she can remember. She became a certified birth doula in 2008 and since then has supported many mothers and families. Through her work as a doula and own experience in becoming a mother, her passion has only continued to grow. Laura believes in connecting families with resources and face to face support services to help them make informed decisions throughout their unique journey.

Laura works as a patient experience manager for a national health care organization and is the current co-president of the Long Island Doula Association. Laura lives in Suffolk County with her husband, and three children ages four and a half and two (twins). Her experiences have taught her that a mom can never have enough information and support around her; and she is honored to have the opportunity to realize her dream of opening a space where moms can gather and share.

I can personally attest to how wonderful Laura is. After having my third son last September, I found myself overwhelmed and in need of someone to speak to. She somehow knew (subconsciously) to reach out to me to tell me she was there to help support me.

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

I lived in Merrick until I was 12, and then moved away but ended up back on LI after college and then married a Long Islander so we stayed here to raise our family.

Child(ren) and Age(s)?

I have three kids – a 4.5 year old girl and two year old twins (a boy and girl).

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

I went to the University of Hawaii, and that is where I discovered my passion for birth and supporting moms.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

My mom and Mother in law, and my midwives and doulas

What is your own tip for “surviving” Quarantine with kids?

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

I am the co-founder of The Nesting Place, a local motherhood wellness center which provides support for moms in the form of groups, classes and 1:1 support services for moms.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

There is so much to learn from moms, both professionally and as a mom myself. Every time I have the honor of witnessing a group, or even just chatting with a mom through my work at the Nesting Place, I am in awe of how strong, resilient, and loving mothers are.

What is your favorite thing about your job/what do you like the most about what you do?
My favorite thing about The Nesting Place is seeing moms gather and support each other. There is nothing quite like peer support in motherhood. Moms are a beautiful force and when they gather together, they are giving and getting support at the same time.

The Nesting Place was founded by two Long Island Moms, Laura and Jacqueline, who met after the birth of their children. They bonded over a mutual goal: to create a physical space on Long Island where moms of all kinds could gather to find trusted resources and connection to help them feel supported and confident. It is located at 2043 Wellwood Ave, Farmingdale, NY.
