Meet A Mom: Laurie Volges | Western Nassau Moms

Meet Laurie! If you’re looking for someone to motivate you and get you into shape look no further. I met Laurie while attending one of her classes at Orangetheory Fitness in Carle Place. Laurie is a Registered Dietitian and works as a Pediatric Specialty Nutrition Rep for Long Island and Queens. On top of that, she is a mommy to a sweet 2 1/2 year old, Luke! I love following Laurie’s journey as a mom and quest to remain fit on Instagram plus enjoy learning some tips on eating healthy and being the best you possible!

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?
Grew up in Valley Stream and have lived in Garden City since I was 18 years old (now 36)
Tell us about the little guy who made you a mother?

I have a son Luke who is 2 1/2 years old.

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I eat pizza, burgers, fries and ice cream. Just because I’m a Registered Dietitian and personal trainer- I still indulge!

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

It truly “takes a village” With that being said, my parents have provided constant support since Luke was born. In addition, my close group of girls friends as well as my two sister in laws who all have children within a few months of each other

What are your favorite things to do with Luke?

Luke loves to visit Stew Leonard’s – the animatronics make food shopping with mommy so much fun. He also loves music so he will play his guitar and sing. We enjoy making music videos with one another! (I love following Laurie on Instagram – her instastories are adorable)!

Tell us about yourself!
I’m a Registered Dietitian with over 10 years of experience. I began my career in clinical nutrition at a local hospital as well as working with private clients on the side. I have since joined a very well known global specialty nutrition company and have been a Pediatric Specialty Nutrition Rep for Long Island and Queens.  I decided to pursue my certification in Personal training summer of 2019 and trained to become a fitness coach at Orangetheory Fitness Carle Place in my “spare” time.  I still have a small “side hustle” of clients I see on the side as I like to maintain trends and research in all areas of nutrition.

Any  quick suggestions for busy moms and dads on eating healthy and staying fit?
Be consistent! So many of us have a hard time finding the actual time to workout or eat healthy. You must change your view of working out and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I always compare it to brushing your teeth. You don’t question each morning whether you will brush your teeth or not. Which is the same way we should approach diet and exercise. (SOOO true!!!)
Also, there is NO magic pill, quick fix or fad diet that will give you immediate results. Consistency and balance is KEY
