Christmas 2018
Chop Your Own Tree
That time of year is upon us – frosty window panes, twinkling lights everywhere you look, and holiday cheer all around. This year, why not start a new tradition and take your family to one of Long Island’s tree farm’s to cutdown your very own tree? No better way to kick off your holiday than spending a day with your family finding that perfect tree.
A few things you should know before heading out East:
- Not every place provides handsaws and rope. Perhaps pack them, along with a blanket for the roof of your car, just in case.
- Some of the most sought after tree species sell out early. As the old saying goes, “The early bird catches the worm.”
- Dress warm – you may need to walk far to find the perfect tree. Pack comfortable sneakers, hats, gloves, warm socks and an extra scarf or two. Being freezing is no fun for anyone.
- Not every farm has a restroom. Check to see if there are facilities prior to drinking that third cup of hot chocolate.
- Pets are allowed at some farms and not at others. If you want to bring Fido, check to see if the farm allows dogs.
- Don’t forget the green (and I don’t mean holly). Most places accept all methods of payment, but some still only accept cash. Check to see if the farm you’ve decided to travel to accepts credit cards or if they’re cash only.
