Fall Beauty Cleanup Tips & Favorites! - Western Nassau Moms

Fall Beauty Cleanup Tips & Favorites!

I’m a mom of three young kids, two active boys who bicker daily like two old men but also bro out so hard over dinosaurs, nerf guns or Legos 5 minutes later.  And then there is my daughter, who just turned one, whose funny & feisty personality is starting to emerge.  My house feels like pure chaos most days, but I love it and can’t picture it any other way.

As moms, we tend to lack time for ourselves.  While many of us work out and try to eat healthy, we can unknowingly be using harmful products on our largest organ, our skin.  As moms, we also do most of the buying for our families so if we can make small changes when choosing our products, it will make a healthier impact.

Beautycounter is a safe and high-performing beauty brand with the mission of getting safer products in the hands of everyone. They have a strict ingredient selection process, banning over 1,500 harmful/questionable ingredients from all their products. I wanted to share 3 quick tips to help find safer, cleaner beauty and my top 5 must-have’s for Fall from Beautycounter!  There’s something for everyone to try whether you’re a minimalist mama when it comes to your beauty routine, a skin care/makeup junkie or anything in between.

TIP #1The #1 ingredient to avoid in products is FRAGRANCE/PARFUM.  ‘Fragrance’ is considered a trade secret, so companies aren’t legally bound to disclose what chemicals make up the scent.  It is often dozens-and can even be hundreds-of chemicals. Many kids and people suffer from asthma, eczema, allergies, etc. so it’s best to fill your home with cleaner products and avoid irritants by opting for cleaner, unscented products.

TIP #2Toss the old/expired products to avoid bacteria and breakouts (Mascara expiration is 3 months, concealer is 6-8 months, eye pencils, powders, eyeshadows & lipsticks are 1 year).  Don’t forget to wash your makeup brushes regularly too.  You may even have some old eyeshadows lurking in your cosmetics bags from your clubbing days (I’m not judging, but you do need to toss those;).

TIP #3Check your product labels, be familiar with what ingredients to avoid and switch out if needed.“EWG” (Environmental Working Group) is a helpful resource to find safety ratings for products.  The majority of Beautycounter’s products are rated a 1 or 2, which is the safest rating.  I suggest checking your daily items first, and then simplify your routine to the essentials to keep things affordable.

Ok, on to my fall favorites!

  1.  Protect & Cover– Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 20 + Touch Up Concealer Pen

Even though we are heading into fall, it’s a good idea to keep your skin protected.  This is a favorite, even for the most minimalistic moms out there. Our dew skin is a sheer, no makeup look with just enough sheer coverage to even skin tone a little, and make your skin look awake and dewy, even if you aren’t.  The concealer pen pairs nicely withthe dew skin. This duo may just trick people into thinking you’re a well-rested mom everyday;).

  1.  Safer Lips in so many shades (neutral and bold)– Lipsticks & Lip glosses

Our lip products are amazing- even moms who were sole chapstick-wearers have fallen for our lip sheers and glosses.  You can choose from lip sheers, lip glosses or color intense lipstick.

My Fall Picks (berry tones): Plum lip sheer, fig lip gloss & Little Black Dress color intense lipstick

Neutrals shades: Petal or Twig lip sheer and blush shimmer gloss

*All of our cosmetics are 3rd party tested for heavy metals with undetectable levels.

  1. Hydrate – Cleansing Balm with Vitamin C

This must-have multi-tasking balm can be used as a nourishing daily cleanser, a makeup-removing balm, hydrating overnight mask & more- great for traveling moms too! My balm lasts me around 6 months (a little goes a long way).

  1. Find an easy Skin Care Regimen

I like to keep my daily skin care regimen simple – I use the Countermatch products, which are good for hydration and age prevention, adapting to your skin’s needs.  I also add the #2 Plumping face oil in the mix.  Our skin care lines extend from basic care to age prevention, anti-aging and even a new line for oily/acne skin.  To see what’s right for your skin, I highly recommend taking our Skin Care Quiz here in less than a minute.

  1. Treat your skin – Resurfacing Peel and/or Balancing Charcoal Mask

You can get a safer glow without a trip to your dermatologist. This peel (doesn’t actually peel your face) promotes cell turnover for a smoother complexion, boosts overall clarity, reduces appearance of fine lines, pores and dark spots and helps even skin tone.

Our balancing kaolin clay mask deep-cleans, absorbing excess oil and drawing out impurities targeting blemishes, pores and oily areas. This is well worth your time, plus it always makes my kids giggle when they see me (or my husband) sporting our masks.

Wishing you and your families a healthy fall and winter!
